Now the real work begins. It's fairly easy to get this far, but getting the rest of the way will take a lot of work, a lot of time and a lot of our money.
Blago can't be stupid. Crafty? Sly? Manipulative? Powerful? (not so powerful now, maybe) But not stupid.
A strong and lengthy defense should be expected. How long will it drag out? When does his term end?
Today's vote to impeach? 114-1. Who was the loner?
Should there always be at least one dissent? Should any ever be unanimous?
I'm reminded of the movie Putney Swope. Not a great movie, but one with a real point. When the chairman of the board of a company dies, the board must elect a new chairman. No one wants Putney Swope to be chairman, but a number of the board members feel he ought to get at least one vote.
And so one board member votes for Putney. And another votes for Putney, unknown to the first. And so does another. And enough vote for Putney that he becomes the new chairman! They caution him not to rock the boat.
My favorite line in the movie is his response: "I'm not going to rock the boat. I'm going to sink the boat!"
