Woodstock Police arrest 2 17-year-olds

Woodstock Police issued the following press release at 3:30PM:

AGGRAVATED BATTERY ARRESTS

Woodstock, IL – On Friday afternoon, May 8th 2009, the Woodstock Police Department received information that a physical altercation had occurred in Emricson Park during the evening hours of Thursday, May 7th, 2009. The initial investigation determined that on Thursday evening May 7th 2009 at about 10:00PM, a group of local individuals met at Emricson Park. During the course of this gathering a physical altercation occurred involving William J. Vahldieck – 20 years of age, Steven A. Vasquez-Gomez – 17 years of age, and Michael P. Dunn, Jr., - 17 years of age, where Vahldieck was battered by Vasquez-Gomez and Dunn. The altercation and gathering reportedly ended with all parties going their separate ways. The Police Department was not contacted by any of the involved parties or witnesses until Friday afternoon. The Police Department began an investigation into this incident and made initial contact with all three involved individuals and began interviews of those parties as well as identifying and speaking with numerous witnesses. The investigation determined that all of the involved parties knew each other before the incident and that this matter was not gang related. The investigation has also determined that there were no weapons involved in this altercation.

On Friday May 8th 2009, at approximately 10:00PM the Woodstock Police Department and the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to the Bigelow Road ball fields in Emricson Park for the report of an unconscious male subject. Upon arrival, responders identified William J. Vahldieck as the unconscious male subject. The responding Officers and Fire/Rescue District Personnel learned that William J. Vahldieck and some friends had been playing ball when he and another player had collided in the outfield as they both had been trying to catch a fly ball. William J. Vahldieck was subsequently transported to Centegra Memorial Hospital in Woodstock where he later died on Saturday, May 9th, 2009.

As the result of the investigation into the May 7th, 2009 physical altercation which occurred in Emricson Park, criminal charges were filed and arrest warrants were issued today, Tuesday, May 12, 2009, for STEVEN A. VASQUEZ-GOMEZ of 810 Roger Rd., Woodstock and MICHAEL P. DUNN JR. of 951 Dakota Dr., Woodstock. Both individuals have been charged with the following:

AGGRAVATED BATTERY / GREAT BODILY HARM – Class 3 Felony

AGGRAVATED BATTERY / PUBLIC PLACE – Class 3 Felony

MOB ACTION / FORCE / TWO PERSONS – Class 4 Felony


Bond was set at $25,000.00 on the warrants which were issued for the arrest of these two individuals.

Both individuals have since turned themselves in to Woodstock Police Department and have been released on bond pending a court hearing on June 10, 2009.

Further investigation of the matter continues by the Woodstock Police Department, the McHenry County Coroners Office and the McHenry County States Attorneys Office.
