No ifs, ands or butts at the Library

Today I emailed three suggestions to the Woodstock Public Library.

1. Please ask your maintenance man (or Public Works) to sweep up the cigarette butts from the sidewalks in front of the library.

2. Please install butt cans in which smoking patrons can deposit their cigarettes as they arrive at the Library. Or a sign directing smokers to leave their butts in the ashtrays of their cars.

3. Monitor the over-flowing trash can in front of the Library. If people continue to pile it high with bags of trash, just have it removed and let them get rid of their trash at home.

A perhaps unintentional result of the statewide smoking ban in public buildings and within 15 feet of entrances has resulted in an unsightly mess on many sidewalks.

Maybe somebody could invite a little pouch that would hang on a smoker's belt, and he could just put his butts in it. Air-tight, of course. Hey, maybe I should invent it!
