Someone in McHenry County must be up to no-good.
After letters to Cal Skinner and Gus Philpott from McHenry County Sheriff's Department No. 2, Undersheriff Andy Zinke, were circulated, it appears to me that someone did a cut-and-paste and sent Cal Skinner a letter purportedly from Ill. State Rep. Jack Franks. (To enlarge the image of this letter, just click on it. Then, to close the image, click on the "X" or on the Back button on your browser to come back here.)
Zinke's letters to both of us were hot air. Sort of like, "I'll huff and I'll puff until ..." Cal and I like brick construction!
The letter above appears today on McHenry County Blog under the headline "Jack Franks Threatens McHenry County Blog".
Why do I say "appears" and "purportedly"?
It's hard to believe that a McHenry County lawyer and a State Rep (since 1999) would puff up his chest in such a manner and send a "threatening" letter to a prominent blogger, former State Representative himself and popular Crystal Lake resident.
As soon as Franks Gerkin McKenna P.C. opens this morning, I'll call to inquire whether that letter on their stationery is authentic. I wonder if it is, because it contains no address, telephone or other contact information. Ever hear of a law firm not including that? If you want to call them, too, just dial (815) 923-2107 (Do not call the number that appears first in the Google search results for the law firm.)
The wording is too similar to Zinke's letter - much too similar.
Jack's letter (if, indeed, it is from Jack) warns Cal not to use any photo of him. You may not recognize Jack around town from this photo on the State Government website. Compare it with the photo of Jack and Speaker Mike Madigan lawyer Mike Kasper in today's article on McHenry County Blog.
Which Jack do you like? Happy Jack with his $1,000 suit on or the Jack who needs a larger-size shirt and a shave?
Just for the record, Cal Skinner is welcome at any political fundraisers that I might ever hold, at family events or any business meetings at the world headquarters of the Woodstock Advocate, and to publish any photographs of my family or me. Your cameras will be good enough credentials for me, Cal.
Next time you see Andy or Jack, Cal, I hope they don't turn around to walk away from you. Just make sure this Size 11 boot stays on the floor.

Wow, the made-up-controversies make you guys seem so important.
I mean, Really? And this is more a comment to those out there that like to read the comments.
Really? Whatsernames, weird guys with wigs "crashing" the whatsernames phone bank. And a fakey letter from JF .... (eye roll). You and Cal are really too much.
Maybe, one day, when you put together enough of an organization to have more than a 10 to 1 shot at anything -- these reverse pranks may draw some needed attention to yourselves ... until then, they strike me as poor attempts by those WAY out of the loop, trying to say, "Hey look at me!"
And this is for Gus, because he so often doesn't get the point of my posts: I think that these attacks are made up by the people who might gain some much needed attention by being attacked by people who are above them in stature.
And I think I am not the only one who thinks that.
My call to Jack Franks' law office in Marengo this morning was not returned today, so I'll assume that the letter sent to Cal Skinner was authentic (almost wrote "legitimate").
Jack owes Cal an apology.
Look closely at the letter sent to Cal Skinner on Jack Franks' stationery.
If that came out of a law office, somebody needs to be fired.
Look at the heading. See the ":" after Skinner? In 50 years of reading business letters, that is the first time I've seen that.
Usually the "Via email" line would be italicized and bold.
And the double line in closing? Both "Sincerely" and "Very truly yours"?
If that letter did not come out of Jack's office, all he has to do is say so and I'll make fun of the person who did write it.
Same with the one from Zinke. Maybe I'll take a copy to Zinke's fundraiser and ask him personally if he sent it.
The call to Franks office was not returned, so you must assume the letter is authentic.
Good Journalism, sir!
Whoop ... EXACT SAME ATTACK, ALERT ****
For those of you who follow this blog, you will remember that non-attorney Gus Philpot, when he viewed the Bentley Trust Fund Declaration, he said the work was shoddy, now this alleged letter from JF is shoddy, because any writing made by a lawyer is shoddy if it doesn't live up to Gus (obey the speed limt) Philpot.
Ya know Gus for a few extra years of college and law school and a little luck on the bar, you could have been writing things that some random blogger called shoddy ... instead of trying to write a blog that often comments on the law with "Advocate" in the title.
Lastly, in conclusion ...(it's funny to me!) Gus, would it surprise you that Franks didn't want you within 200 feet of him? (to quote order of protection language) ... you half ass things with dogged determination, and act like because you are really determined that should make up for the really vile crappy things you do. (I have listed them before and if you ask I will list them, again, not that I think anyone doesn't know the list by heart). The fact that you have teamed up with Cal the Pal, doesn't mean you understand his politics. And when he attacks JF out of what anyone has to assume is total jealousy, you get caught like the 4 year old trying to pal around with the 9 year old, he ducks out of the way of the swing ... and you get nailed.
If you or Cal would attack JF for his positions, instead of his money ... his appearance in pictures ... the cost of his wardrobe, or whether he shaved this morning or not ... perhaps we would have a reason to take your criticisms seriously (of course we wouldn't because of your past actions -- but we would have a reason).
As it is your blog falls under the same curse that the writer of that letter made on Cal.
Neither of you are journalists, so one could understand why people wouldn't want you around.
Ray, tell me you wrote the "Bentley Trust Fund Declaration." Did you?
Umm, no I didn't Gus. I do not do trusts, I try criminal cases. I am surprised that with your journalistic integrity you didn't know that.
I don't do divorces, I don't do real estate, I don't do probate, I don't do corporate work. I have only done criminal work for 20 years, so I am really new at it, but I am hopeful that someday I'll be pretty good at it.
