Merit Commission purposes changes...

Who changed the mission of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department Merit Commission?

On May 9, 2012, the mission was "to ensure the citizens of McHenry County that there is a fair and equal opportunity system for the employment, promotion, discipline and discharge of full-time Deputy Sheriffs."

By June 12, 2012, the purpose had been changed to "The merit commission ensures a fair and equal opportunity system for the employment, promotion, discipline and discharge of full-time Deputy Sheriffs."

Notice the change? The mission of the Merit Commission is no longer to ensure the citizens that a fair system exists.

Now, who changed this? Did the Sheriff change this? The Law & Justice Committee? The McHenry County Board? The new wording is on the re-designed website of the Sheriff's Department.

The five citizens/residents of McHenry County are there to represent the People of McHenry County. They should not function as a rubber stamp for Sheriff Nygren.

Something else is new. The biographical profiles of three of the member of the Merit Commission have been removed, and the photographs of all five members have been removed.

And the terms of office have been changed. How did that happen?

Now the terms of office are shown as date of expiration; for example,
4/1/14 William Mack
4/1/15 Janelle Crowley
4/1/16 Patrick McAndrews
4/1/17 Brian Goode
4/1/18 Gloria Urch-VanHof

Members of the Merit Commission are recommended by the sheriff and approved by the McHenry County Board. Did the Board approve these extended and staggered terms?
