Next sheriff in McHenry County

The McHenry County Board is quite likely to have an opportunity soon to appoint a new sheriff for the County.

Why? Because many think that Keith Nygren will "retire" shortly after the window opens in July. What window? The window of opportunity in which the County Board appoints his successor, rather than the people of McHenry County electing the person to fill his unexpired term, which ends November 30, 2014.

The undersheriff, Andy Zinke, is Nygren's hand-picked choice. Zinke has already announced for the November 2014 election. But that's not for 2 1/2 years! Why is Zinke being paraded around now? Who starts a local county campaign three years before an election? No one! Unless there is a reason.

McHenry County needs a sheriff who is squeaky clean.

Did you read where a man who being pushed forward as the next U.S. Ambassador to Iraq withdrew his candidacy just before he was to be voted on? Why? Because of some racy emails? Only because of that? Think maybe there was fire where there was smoke?

How about right here in McHenry County?

Right now, is there smoke starting to swirl about Zinke's feet?

Squeaky clean, folks. We need a sheriff with the highest morale and ethical character. A no-nonsense sheriff who will treat employees fairly and equally.

Before the last election, one of my stepson's friends told me he hoped that I'd get elected Sheriff, because then he wouldn't have to worry about getting a ticket from a deputy.

I told him that, indeed, he wouldn't have to worry about getting "a" ticket, if he got stopped and mentioned my name. I told him that I'd order deputies to issue TWO tickets to anyone who thought he could mention my name and get out of a ticket!

And if he told a deputy that he was a friend of mine, then the deputy would know he was lying. Everybody knows I don't have any friends.
