Tax Return deadlline - April 18

For those of you who don't intend to wait until the last minute to file your Federal and State income tax returns, now would be a good day to get started.

Did you forget about your tax returns, since the IRS did not mail out forms this year? Did you notice that your "packet" did not arrive in the mail in December or early January this year?

You might be able to get forms at the library, and you can definitely print them from http://www.irs.gov/ and http://www.illinois.gov/

What are you waiting for? You might even be entitled to a refund?

Why are federal tax returns due April 18, instead of on April 15?

April 15 is Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia. What in the world is that?

According to Wikipedia, "Emancipation Day is celebrated in many former British colonies in the Caribbean and areas of the United States on various dates in observation of the emancipation of slaves of African origin. It is also observed in other areas in regard to the abolition of serfdom or other forms of servitude."

Give me a break!

(Tried to find easily the due date for Illinois returns on http://www.illinois.gov/  No doubt the deadline will pass by the time I could find it, so I gave up. It's probably April 15.)
