The Better Government Association uncovers some really good things. For example, on March 25 a report was carried online about red-light tickets in Chicago and the number of tickets issued to CTA bus drivers.
We all know that the driver of a vehicle is responsible for the ticket; right? Wrong.
Thanks to a union contract, the CTA picks up the fines for its bus drivers. And many of them.
In a review of more than 9,000 red-light tickets issued since 2006, the BGA and Fox News found that CTA drivers got 4,800 of them! The CTA has forked out $227,000 since 2006 but, at $100 per, that's only 2,270 of them. What happened to the other 2,500 of them???
Why didn't the CTA stand up to the Amalgamated Transit Union???
The article about the red-light tickets was on March 25 and can be read on http://www.bettergov.org/ While you're there, check out the article on the McHenry County Sheriff's Office that was published by the BGA only four days earlier. On the BGA site, click on Latest Investigations and scroll down to the article.
I hear the BGA isn't done sniffing about the Sheriff's Department.
