Construction workers are still "out" at area schools. The Laborers' Chicago District Council members went on strike on July 1. Now the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 has joined them.
Drive by one of the Woodstock District 200 schools, or drive by several of them. Notice the parking lots that have been torn up. Notice the windows boarded up.
Did the unions carefully choose exactly when to strike? Of course, they did. Let members start a project, like at a school. Tear out windows for replacement. Board them up. Strip top surface off a parking lot in preparation for resurfacing.
Then strike.
Think that's not pressure to get your way?
According to this morning's Northwest Herald, District 200's "position is neutral in regard to the strike." No, no, no, NO! Its position had better not be "neutral." District 200 had better be doing everything it can to require work to resume, so that work can be completed before opening day of schools.
That's DO EVERYTHING. Convene an emergency meeting of the School Board. Discuss locking out the striking workers. Hire non-union companies to come in and complete contracts.
Of course, then they'll have to be ready to lock out the teachers and hire replacements who are not union members, unless union teachers have the guts to put their teaching responsibilities ahead of their union allegiance.
Do not wait. Every day of delay means a day of no-school in the fall.

Wake up it's a new day. You must still be dreaming.
Interesting tactic. Most people sidling up to the trough (trying to get elected) try to appeal to voters not alienate them. Good luck with that -and be sure and say 'Hi' to Jimmy.
Thanks for noticing. My motto? WYSIWYG. You know that one; right?
Just because I'm running for Sheriff doesn't mean that I'll give up one inch of who I am. I say what I mean, and I mean what I say.
I hope there are about 30,000 people in McHenry County who like that.
