Arizona decides to do what the Feds won't do and protect the U.S.A. from border violators.
And what does Obama do? He sics the Justice Department on the State of Arizona. Booo!!!
Arizona is sick and tired of the thousands (hundreds of thousands) of illegals crossing from Mexico into Arizona. Many of these are OTMs - Other Than Mexican.
There is nothing wrong with Arizona's law. If you go to Mexico illegally and get caught, you'll wish you were illegal and in Arizona!
It is the Federal Government's job to protect the U.S.A. from illegals (no matter from where they come). Why isn't the Federal Government (Obama) doing its job? When the Feds don't do it, then the State must. California, New Mexico and Texas should be right in the fight and on Arizona's side. And, if the State doesn't, then the People will.
Legal immigrants are welcome. U.S. citizens and legal visitors of any race or nationality ought not feel hassled in Arizona, if stopped for violation of any law.

Here are a couple of descriptions of the Los Zetas which is a very active drug cartel in Mexico. They do operate on the border particularly in and around the city of Ciudad Juarez. I don't understand why this has not prompted more action on the part of the US government. These drug cartels pose just as much of a threat to the US as do the Al-Qaeda extremists. They may not be bombing anything...but the drug trafficking that they bring into the US is arguably even more damaging, if you take into account all the effects. A cursory search of Google images will produce some incredibly disturbing images of what this group is responsible for.

"they ought not feel hassled (sic)."
WELL THEN IT'S OK THEN.
From Obsidian Wings:
Two months ago, the Arizona Republic published an exhaustive report that found that, according to statistics from the FBI and Arizona police agencies, crime in Arizona border towns has been "essentially flat for the past decade." For example, "In 2000, there were 23 rapes, robberies and murders in Nogales, Ariz. Last year, despite nearly a decade of population growth, there were 19 such crimes." The Pima County sheriff reported that "the border has never been more secure."
FBI statistics show violent crime rates in all of the border states are lower than they were a decade ago -- yet Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) reports that the violence is "the worst I have ever seen." President Obama justifiably asserted last week that "the southern border is more secure today than any time in the past 20 years," yet Rush Limbaugh judged the president to be "fit for the psycho ward" on the basis of that remark.
Without question, illegal immigration and Mexican drug cartels are huge problems. And there is a real danger that the alarming and growing violence in Mexico could spread north. But beyond anecdotes -- the slaying of a rancher and the shooting of a sheriff's deputy -- there is no evidence that it has.
