The R-Word

With the country in a recession and every indication that it will deepen, isn't it wonderful to know that the money is available to make unnecessary cosmetic changes on the corners of the Woodstock Square?

Just what are these "improvements" costing? Does the public really know? Obviously, John Q. Public can find out, if he has the patience to wade through mounds of paperwork, estimates, RFPs, Billing Statements, check registers and cancelled checks.

Barring that, is there anyone else who thinks this project never should have started or, at least, it should not have started at this time?

As property values fall and more property owners contest their super-high property tax valuations and seek adjustments downward to lower their property taxes, what forecasts are being by the City of Woodstock that contemplate a decline in City income? Would it be more prudent to save money and not make unnecessary cosmetic changes, against the day when income drops and you try to maintain payroll and meet other obligations?

How many more projects of this type are moving through the pipeline and toward the day when construction will start?
