Cal Skinner's article on the recent filing in Federal District Court by Zane Seipler's attorney includes the filing itself and exhibits in the case that clearly show the prominence of Sheriff Keith Nygren's own design of the badge of office - the seven-point star that is being highly publicized.

Gotta hand it to Cal; he has got a handle on how to display the document and the images.
The Northwest Herald acts like "Oh, it's just a 7-point star." No, it's not "just" the star. It's the thousands of dollars of taxpayer money that has been spent to plaster Keith's own design of the emblem of office (not the emblem of office) all over County equipment and stationery and his political campaign information.
The emblem of office is a five-point star. Keith apparently had someone design a seven-point badge, which he used in his political campaign. There wasn't really any problem until he expanded the use of it onto County property.
Zane has three legal actions running.
1. His effort to get his job back. Nygren is talking about going to the Illinois Supreme Court with that one, since the Appellate Court - 2nd District, the McHenry County Circuit Court and the arbitrator all ruled against him;
2. A wrongful termination, civil rights' lawsuit in U.S. District Court (Rockford); and
3. The petition for a Special Prosecutor to investigate Nygren.
I wonder if Nygren has trouble, sometimes, deciding which hat he is wearing in each court.

Could that be considered defacing county property?
