Was a law enforcement officer in our area involved in a hit-and-run last week, possibly even while on duty and in a marked vehicle?
Nothing has been published in the print media in the County, and no ticket is yet filed in the McHenry County Circuit Court. A FOIA request has been submitted to the investigating agency, and information will be published when the "rumor" has been confirmed.
Other details learned last week, but which did not include the hit-and-run information, were withheld while being confirmed.
If the incident is confirmed and if no ticket was issued and only administrative action (already) taken by the person's employer, then some heads ought to roll at high levels within the agencies involved. Why should an law enforcement officer get a pass, when a citizen would get arrested?
Will this be just one more example of favoritism shown among brother officers? This is the stuff that destroys the public's belief in fair and impartial application of the law.
