At last night's Dorr Township monthly meeting the trustees received a resignation letter from Trustee Alan Swanson. Mr. Swanson has been ill for several months and has missed many meetings, although he wanted to be at them.
The trustees are now faced with appointing a successful to serve out Mr. Swanson's term. The successor must be a Republican, because the trustee's spot was occupied by a Republican. Letters of interest should be submitted to the Dorr Township Supervisor, Bob Pierce, and they should be submitted promptly. Call the Township office at 815.338.0125 Do not delay. It will be important to learn the duties, responsibilities, obligations and requirements.
There is a little pay for the position, and no one is going to spend $19,000,000 to get appointed to succeed Mr. Swanson and get in line to run for election for a full term.
It will be good if a highly-concerned, interested, independent-thinking, taxpayer-oriented person will show up - one who perhaps have some influence in the community and who will be able to persuade the other trustees to appoint him or her to the open spot. Maybe someone who believes in government "of the People, by the People, for the People". Someone who shows the utmost respect for the electors and visitors who show up at meetings. All the time.
Someone who will bring a fresh set of eyes and ears to the meetings, and make it to clear to the residents (electors, voters) that the Township is run for them. Maybe even someone who might be of the mindset to examine critically whether township government should even continue in Illinois and who might lead the charge to eliminate it, should such elimination be in the best interests of the People. A person of good intellect and with strong communication skills, both verbal and written. A person who will insist that written records of the Township be clear and complete.
I'm unsure just how the Republican requirement fits in, since in General Elections no one pulls a party ticket. Is it by voting in the last Primary, where the voter must declare a party to get a ballot? Call the Township office for information, or call the Election Board of the McHenry County Clerk's office at 815.334.4242
