Open Letter re beer kegs

The following open letter has been sent to Mayor Sager and the six members of the Woodstock City Council regarding the proposed beer keg ordinance that will considered by the City Council on Tuesday, January 19.

Gentlemen and Ladies,

I urge you not to adopt the proposed ordinance about beer kegs.

About seven years ago Crystal Lake passed an ordinance prohibiting cruising on U.S. 14. In seven years the Crystal Lake Police Dept. has issued two tickets, and they were in the first year.

The keg ordinance is not needed in Woodstock. State liquor laws provide sufficient law for the police. Woodstock is not a kegger town. We have no universities, no football stadium, no parks where beer can be consumed, no party apartment complexes.

This ordinance is, simply, not needed. I regret the money that the City has wasted in directing staff time on this matter and expending fees with the City Attorney to draft a proposed ordinance.

Sincerely,

Gus Philpott
