Campaign contact information

Several years ago I proposed to our County Clerk that she should require candidates for offices in McHenry County to furnish complete contact information in their political literature.

Complete, to me, would mean 1) telephone number; 2) fax number, if any; 3) email address; 4) website with complete contact information thereon; and 5) campaign mailing address.

Phone information is important to be able to reach a campaign quickly. Let's say you are driving around and see a candidate's sign that has blown into a roadway. You might be generous and kind-hearted and, instead of running over it, you might move it to the side of the road and want to call the candidate's campaign office.

If you want to call Keith Nygren, you are out of luck. You won't to call his office, because you know that political calls to a County office would not be the right thing to do. Now, you might know his phone number in Hebron or his campaign cell phone or his phone number in Cape Coral. Other than that, you are out of luck.

No phone number is provided on his campaign website - just an email address and a snailmail address.

With $120,000 in the warchest, wouldn't you think they'd spring for a phone number?

Great idea, a big YES for this one.
