Cal Skinner reports today that many candidates for elected offices in McHenry have voluntarily filed conflict-of-interest disclosure forms with ALAW, the Alliance for Land, Agriculture and Water (https://sites.google.com/site/landagricultureandwater/).
In the race for McHenry County Sheriff, Republican candidate Zane Seipler was the first to file. Green Party candidate Gus Philpott was second to file (filed evening of January 16: it's not available online yet), and Democratic Party candidate Mike Mahon is filing today (it's not online yet).
According to McHenry County Blog (www.mchenrycountyblog.com), incumbent Republican Sheriff Keith Nygren has not filed yet.
Also according the McHenry County Blog, McHenry County Board President (and candidate for re-election to the County Board) Ken Koehler has not filed the ALAW conflict-of-interest form.
Readers should keep in mind that the conflict-of-interest disclosure form is not required to be filed with ALAW. No inference of conflict-of-interest should be read into a candidate's not filing this form with ALAW. As of this writing, no disclosures have been posted since January 14th, 11:42AM.
This is sort of like being guilty until found innocent; errrr, innocent until found guilty - just as no one assumes that a defendant is guilty if he pleads the Fifth Amendment right against incriminating himself. You don't, do you?
