400-hr. training waived after sheriff appointment

Just in case you don't know about this website (or haven't been there for a while), you might enjoy checking out the latest on http://dirtykeithvsdirtyharry.blogspot.com/

As you might guess, considerable time and effort go into producing it and changing it regularly.

A good sense of humor helps, when you read it; but there also is good, thought-provoking information there.

For example, why did Keith Nygren ask for a waiver of the 400-hour Law Enforcement Basic Training course from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board on May 19, 1997, shortly after being appointed Sheriff of McHenry County? (Click on the image to enlarge it; then click on the Back button on your browser to return here.)

He had been with the Crystal Lake Police Department for 25 years (1971-1996). Or did his law enforcement work start in in DeKalb County in 1971, as he told the Northwest Herald editorial board? Why wasn't he required to complete the 400-hour course on the way up through the ranks in Crystal Lake? Why did he find it necessary, or desirable, to apply for the waiver in 1997?
