Marengo, Union and Belvidere families are not waiting for the sheriff's department or their police departments to start protecting their properties.
Many residents are concerned about the lack of publicity about the burglaries that are occurring. Naturally, if the police agencies don't provide information to the media, then there won't be stories in the papers. But, if residents call reporters directly, then the stories ought to start appearing. One resident mentioned to me that the Huntley patch.com may carry a story.
A resident told me that her calls to the sheriff's department are not being returned. I told her to go up the ladder or, better yet, start at the top and let it filter down.
And, with all these burglaries, where is the wonderful NIXLE system???

"My mom who lives off of (name of road deleted) Rd, has called the Northwest Herald and they told her that they cannot report anything just yet because the Marengo Police Department hasn't released their police reports. She then asked them about the McHenry County Sheriffs reports and they wanted to send her off to a reporter. She does however, have a contact with the Northwest Herald and will be contacting that person."
Buy a loaf of bread n' buy a box of bullets. Get the mindset that when you point that gun at someone your not bluffing and you have no problem with having dinner that night or getting a good nights sleep.
Remember there is no U in dead or deceased but there is in burglary, assault & battery, nursing home and gun.
It's important to know when you can shoot someone and, more importantly, to know when you cannot. Since there won't be time to get out the "shoot/don't shoot" manual, figure it out ahead of time. Get information. Talk to knowledgeable police officials and lawyers. But remember: cops are not your lawyers.
Even if someone is carrying out your TV, you can't shoot him. We don't have the Castle Doctrine in Illinois.
Don't know what this is? Google it.

"We were hit too in the early spring and we live just outside Woodstock. We are home most of the time and had a time frame of 2-4 weeks where one of our garage doors kept going up and down, I thought it was malfunctioning but my husband thought someone was outside doing it. Well then I noticed our bench grinder was missing and we thought a friend might have borrowed it. So we didn't ask him about it for a couple of months and now I read this !!!!!!! If we would have known about this we might have caught them because it seems like they were practicing and staking us out. We live very close to the road and have 3 very friendly dogs and like I said home most of the time so we are probably not very good targets.
"But now I'm worried about leaving home !!!!!!! So I think this is bigger than they realize and like I said if we would have known about this maybe they could have caught them in early spring !!!!!!!
"I also know there was a house in Justice Hills that was hit I think last fall and they have 3 big intimidating dogs and they cleaned them out !!!!!"
Can anyone adequately explain to me why the various law enforcement agencies as well as the news media outlets would be colluding to keep this quiet?
Watch for a
white S-10 pickup with a ComEd decal;
a blue pickup; and
a small red car.
Report all suspicious activity, such as vehicles driving slowly through neighborhoods; garage doors going up and door with no one entering or leave the garage; strangers knocking on doors or ringing doorbells, asking questions; peering in mailboxes; door-to-door solicitors.
The victims on Ridgeview said their robbers were driving a white or grey colored small pickup truck with a cream colored horizontal stripe down the side of it. Just wanted to let you know.
