Today NIXLE published an announcement that the McHenry County Sheriff's Department will offer a snowmobile course on Saturday. Big deal...
Has anyone seen snow?
If you disagree with this use of NIXLE to "warn" the public that snowmobile will once again take to the roads, email the Sheriff and your County Board rep.
County Board email addresses can be found on co.mchenry.il.us, and email to the Sheriff can be sent to sheriff@co.mchenry.il.us
Newspapers and letters to snowmobile club members can adequately publicize this course. The public can stop this abuse of the NIXLE system and insist that it be used only for urgent alerts and warnings.

Gus, Gus, Gus... That announcement was sent out as a Community Info piece which it certainly is. It fully complies with the spirit and letter of Nixle's terms of service. YOU have opted IN to receive this as has every one else who received it. Folks who believe, as strongly as you do, that Nixle should only be notifying subscribers of "life & death" emergencies, simply set their account to "Advisories" and they are not bothered with "Traffic" or "Community" info. Simple, isn't it?
What would they care. Nixle is a private company agencies subscribe to. I think it is a good message device. I got the message and so what. My phone has a delete button, doesn't yours?
Thanks, Darth. I re-checked my NIXLE settings, and they are set to Advisories.
Since I don't want to be irritated further by these nonsense "important" bulletins, I'll just unsubscribe to NIXLE.
That's probably for the best, Gus. After all, didn't you recently say that the ONLY reason you even subscribed to it (the Sheriff's Nixle rather than the Woodstock City PD's) is that you want to be able to pick apart everything they use it for? Remember? "When I subscribed to NIXLE on the McHenry County Sheriff's Dept. website (because I wanted to see more silly announcements like the kitchen training program), I expected to receive only NIXLE announcements issued by MCSD."
Now, if you unsubscribe altogether you won't be irritated and neither will the rest of us who happen to read your whines.
