Read carefully what Mayor Aaron Shepley wrote about the referendum for a County Executive in a Letter to the Editor, published October 2 in the Northwest Herald.
I wanted to re-publish the letter and sought permission from Mayor Shepley. My email to him, in care of the City of Crystal Lake, was not answered or even acknowledged.
Tch, tch, tch....
Mayor Shepley labeled the referendum about the County Executive as a "classic bait and switch".
The referendum is not about an election of the McHenry County Board Chairman by popular vote, as some initially believed and as some still believe.
It is about electing a County Executive, who would replace the County Administrator, which is an appointed position.
You can search on the Northwest Herald for that letter. Hurry, though; the paper will archive it soon and then expect you to pay for it.
Check with your library about free access by cardholders to Northwest Herald archives.
