And this (right) is Jenapea's today, 141 days later.
No doubt the owners of the restaurant are anxious to re-open. What's the delay?
The City of Woodstock has been in contact with the property owner and has, no doubt (again), "encouraged" him (or them) to finish up.
Maybe a little court action is needed to provide the "encouragement" to complete the repairs.
If you feel that the City should demand that the work be completed (with a stated deadline) and the property restored for occupancy (hopefully by Jenapea's), then call the Community Development office of the City of Woodstock at 815.338.4305. Don't just express your opinion. Ask what is going on and why the City isn't taking a firmer stand.
On behalf of all the businesses on the Square, the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce ought to be all over the City on this one, too. The Board of Directors ought to adopt a Resolution, and the Executive Director of the Chamber should approach and work aggressively with the City to get these wooden boards down and the space ready for occupancy.
A 4½-month period without business too often is a death sentence for a small business. Why have repairs dragged on for so long?

You say you are a conservative, but at the first sign of a hiccup or glitch, the city council should pass a resolution.
Meh.
Not the City Council, Ray. The Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce should pass a resolution to authorize the Executive Director to push the City to push the owner of the building to stop fooling around and finish the restoration. It could have been completed in 4-6 weeks.
Wow, that totally changes what I was talking about ...?
Why do you keep harping on this bsiness? They may be having financial problems. Am I missing something here?
I'm not "harping" on Jenapea's. I doubt that they own the building in which their little restaurant is located.
There is an Owner of the property who is ultimately responsible for renovating the property and restoring it to habitable condition. There had to be insurance involved; perhaps it was insufficient.
Four months out of business will kill off just about any business.
More importantly, there is the Appearance on the Square. This is the issue. Where is the City? Where is the Chamber of Commerce, on behalf of all merchants on the Square and in the City? AWOL...
Why do you call it their "little restaurant"? And what does it matter if they own the building or not?
You say there had to be insurance involved? Why?
When you say, "Where is the City?" Isn't this you depending on the state, which is what I was talking about in the first place?
(Pick the least significant question from above and answer it.)
I believe that posting a "ticker" that records how many seconds, minutes, hours and days they have been out of business is a bit much. Unseemly.
I hope Jenapea's is NOT out of business. But doesn't anyone else wonder what's really going on?
As a responsible member of the Woodstock business community, the owner of the building at 109 E. Van Buren St. should restore his commercial property to habitable condition ASAP. And, if he fails to do so, then the City should "encourage" him.
What's the delay? The sooner he finishes the remodeling, the sooner he can start collecting rent again. At least, I think that's how business works.
Anybody know who owns that building?

Why the ticker for God's sake?
Never mind. You like to ask questions all the time but you never can answer one. Just one.
Is the counter/ticker working? I didn't think it was, so I thought I had removed it.
If it is working, it is to put pressure on the building owner and the City to get the remodeling job finished and to remove the board-up lumber from the front windows of a property on the City Square.
Guess it's time to visit City Hall and inquire again about the delay? Does anyone else care about the Square? Anyone willing to contact Community Development and report on findings?
If Jenapea's would like to relate progress and delays, I'll be happy to post their message. When will Jenapea's re-open?
Now you can take the ticker down as they announced the WILL NOT be re-opening.
