Schlenkert case continues

Virtually unlimited funds at the McHenry County Sheriff's Department by being able to dip into the county taxpayers' piggy bank will mean continued efforts by the sheriff's department to keep from having to put Deputy Bob Schlenkert back to work, as previously ordered.

Schlenkert should have been able to return to work after the brief refresher training recommended by one doctor, according to an article in the Northwest Herald this week. Instead, Sheriff Nygren ordered him to complete the full physical component of the basic law enforcement academy. There was no need for a veteran deputy to be required to complete the entire basic academy again.

As I understand it, Schlenkert was unable to one component of the POWER (physical) test within the allotted time. And then "The merit commission fired Schlenkert in December 2007 for not following orders to pass the physical test and complete the training academy."

Compare that order to this. Suppose you order a disabled employee in a wheelchair to walk up a flight of stairs. Should the employee be fired for not following orders?

The money being spent currently by the sheriff's department is being wasted, in many cases.

The Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) apparently issued a ruling last week that there was no substantial evidence that he was discriminated against. It didn't say there was no evidence; it said there was no substantial evidence...

Should Sheriff Nygren feel that the ruling by the IDHR is a victory for him, he is seriously mistaken. Nygren claims that Schlenkert's case was without merit, and he is claiming that the IDHR's ruling means Schlenkert's case is without merit.

He's wrong.

Gus, you write on an issue that you don’t know much about other than knowing Schlenkert as one of Zane's associates. I do know that Zane has taken comfort in the fact that Schlenkert was able to be his campaign guru. That is probably more work that the Skunk has done in 10 over years. Very few at the MCSO would want him back. He was the probably laziest deputy ever to don a MCSO uniform. Due to his hair stripe he is known as "Skunk". Skunk does not deserve to return to work. You, as someone who always espouses ethics in Law Enforcement and police driving safely, should ask Skunk how many days he was suspended for the numerous citizen driving complaints and driving complaints from other police departments.

Nope, Nygren got this one right. The Skunk left and now the place smells a lot better without him.

It's funny that Schlenkert was ordered to go BACK to the police academy by a man that NEVER ATTENDED a police academy.

Nygren is such a hypocrite.

I wonder how long until he responds to Mahon's critizisms by allowing correctional officer to carry off duty.

Maybe yesterday!!

Where the heck is Cundiff?

I didn't realize pushing papers and swearing at the top of your lungs could injury one's shoulder so severly!

I think the issue of "no evidence VS no substantial evidence" is pretty thin logic.

Once again you take the side of the outcasts. Do this Gus. Ask some deputies (Other than ZANE and his band of malcontents) if they would like Schlenkert back on the job? If they want to work next to him, knowing HE was their backup. If you get honest answers you'll get big NO's.

I'm sure you are well aware that he is on was Zane's campaign staff.
Those guys circle the wagons for the slugs so they can have someone to point to that is lazier than they are.

You love to FOIA records. Well check Schlenkert's Merit File and see how many suspension days he has served. What's the saying? Where there's smoke, there's fire. I see plenty of smoke. Schlenkert was suspended numerous times under two maybe three Sheriff's. (Hendle, Mullen & Nygren) I doubt any vast conspiracy by this many different administrations could be against this guy.

Being disciplined that many times must indicate some serious issues.

You state it is a waste of money for the Sheriff to defend this case. Having him back would be a waste of money for the citizens.

There are far too many hard working people that really WANT to work as a deputy and do a good job than to advocate for this guy.
