Grafton Township to restrict public meeting

Check out McHenry County Blog at www.mchenrycountyblog.com/ for the official announcement by Grafton Township that it intends to violate the Illinois Open Meetings Act on April 13, when it holds its Annual Town Meeting.

"Only registered voters may attend (and press) - you will need to show some form of ID and your name will be matched to our County voters registration roles."

Well, there go more dollars down the drain, when people begin filing complaints with the Illinois Attorney General and the McHenry County State's Attorney.

To see it for yourself, go to www.graftontownship.us/; then scroll down a little and click on "Click for more information".

Not that it matters, I guess they didn't consider that some Grafton Township residents might not be registered voters, even though they still pay (un)healthy taxes.

Do you suppose they bothered to get legal advice first on the issue of restricting the meeting to township registered voters?

The meeting is no longer restricted, because it would be illegal to do so, otherwise.
