Gun ban in Richmond?

Can you believe this? Little ol' Richmond, Ill., home to fewer than 2,000 men, women, children, dogs, cats, parakeets, ferrets, and snakes is going to waste time talking about a ban on "assault weapons" tonight.

Cal Skinner had an interesting "take" on McHenry County Blog about whether a non-home-rule city can even write a law like this.

Any interest? Go to the Richmond Village Hall, 5600 Hunter Dr, in Richmond today by 7:00PM. You may want to arrive early, if you plan to cram into the small council chambers.

Know somebody over that way? Maybe Peter Koenig, Village President, or Karla Thomas, Village Clerk, or any of the Trustees, Dennis Bardy, Scott Drabant, Charlotte Hollenbach, David Kielpinski, Craig Kunz or Ramsin Wardanian, or the chief of police, John Fryksdale?

If you are a resident and, therefore, someone whose voice they should listen to, be at tonight's meeting. Tell them what a waste a time it is to even discuss banning a weapon that has been banned in the U.S. since about 1934. Do they even know what an "assault weapon" is?

According to today's Northwest Herald, "The Richmond Village Board has a 'shell ordinance' on the agenda for its meeting Wednesday evening." No pun intended, I'm sure.

Speaking of "shell" bills, check out the office title of the Illinois concealed carry bill, HB0183.It was filed as "ELECTRONIC TRANSFER-TERMINALS". Pretty dumb, eh?

But with a "shell ordinance", could the Trustees then make it into what they want and go ahead and vote on it tonight, if it is an agenda item. Man! Talk about knee-jerk reactions!
