Binge drinking - a student problem?

What do you know about the incidence of binge drinking, prescription drug abuse and heroin use by students (and others) in McHenry County? Do you turn away and think, "NIMBY?" (Not in my back yard)

Save this date: Monday, April 12, 2010

A town hall meeting titled "McHenry County Crises:Youth Binge Drinking, Prescription Medication Abuse, and Heroin" will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010, from 6:00PM to 8:30PM at the Woodstock (Ill.) Opera House.

The 2008 Illinois Youth Survey reports show that McHenry County students were binge drinking above the State of Illinois average in Grades 6, 8 and 12. Read that sentence again.

Author Toren Volkmann, 26, will speak about From Binge to Blackout. His book, co-authored with his mother, Chris, describes his battle with alcohol. Read more about their story at http://www.bingetoblackout.com/

These problems are obviously not just problems in McHenry County. They are statewide and nationwide.
