Dan Regna for State's Attorney?

The flurry of news over the Regna vs. Bianchi contest caused me to visit Mr. Regna's website.

The very first item on his platform is:

"RESPOND TO OUR CITIZENS. By restoring and accepting direct citizen complaints, the State's Attorney's Office will become a community resource agency."

Having contacted the State's Attorney's office several times over the years, this item and its placement in the Number One position gets a lot of my attention.

I have been told by the Office of the McHenry County State's Attorney under both Mr. Bianchi and his predecessor, Mr. Pack, that the Office does not serve citizens of McHenry County. Its job is to serve the County government (and not the citizens).

I was particularly upset a while back, after filing a Freedom of Information Request to get a look at a legal opinion issued by the State's Attorney's Office for the Planning and Development Department. The request was refused on the basis of attorney-client privilege, which was a load of hogwash.

I believe that the Department had requested a general opinion as to whether it could legally go after those who were posting those obnoxious paper-and-wireframe, real estate development, advertising signs on the state and county rights-of-way.

I could understand withholding an opinion, if it involved an individual case. But, when it involved the application of an existing County regulation in a broad manner, there was no reason to hide behind the shield of confidentiality.

So, does the current resident of the State's Attorney's Office serve the public? I don't know the answer to that question. Perhaps he does. If this question interests you, inquire and find out before voting day in February.

Dan Regna should dis-avow any connection to Bill Lafew. Lafew's adolescent and Clintonesque behavior can only drag Regna down. The NW Herlad is right - if Lafew wants to support a specific candidate, he should do it on his own time and not as Chair of the County Republican Party. At least Al "Big Daddy" Jordan had the smarts to do it behind closed doors or have a flunky do his dirty work. But Al is no longer involved and is now investing his gravel pit revenues on "depends" and Geritol. Maybe Bill should follow his example and move out to Valley High.

Whoever wrote the previous comment, I want to commend you on your spelling. You must be a very intelligent person.

Secondly, it is unfortunate that you do not know Mr. Jourdan personally. There has NEVER been anyone in this county (maybe with the exception of the late Chuck Miller) that has done more for this county. If you look at anything in this county from roads to bridges to Valley Hi......and on and on and on......Mr. Jourdan is or was behind it.

Mr. Jourdan is far from being retired. He is very active and still in business.

Mr. Jourdan supports more "people in need" than you could ever imagine. If only you knew of his tremendous and unprecedented generosity, you would be ashamed of what you wrote.

Please try to educate yourself next time before demonstrating that you are a 100% complete moron.

Too bad Regna can't run his own campaign without hiding behind the incompetrent asst states attorneys that Bianchi fired. How else will Kristen, et al get a cushy job in the states attorneys office without political backing. Not by talent, for sure.
