What does MCSD do?

Is the public interested in the activities and results of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department?

Does it have time to go to the County Board meetings or wade through the ton of information generated for the County Board reports?

One would think he could read some of the press releases and get a pretty good idea of what the deputies are doing. It doesn't do much good to "think" that because, when you go to the Sheriff's Department website (www.mchenrysheriff.org) and look under "About Us" in the Media Releases, you won't find much.

For example, what's there right now?

11/21/2012 - Crime Prevention Tips for the Holiday Season

11/21/2012 - Arrest for Animal Neglect

11/21/2012 - McHenry County Sheriff's Office Along With United States Marshal Service Conduct Sex Offender Compliance Check
11/20/2012 - Two Men Arrested for Delivery of Cannabis
11/16/2012 - Wonder Lake Resident Arrested for Sex Offender Violations

If that all we got from 400+ employees, over 100 take-car homes, and what may be an absentee sheriff?

What does CALEA call for in terms of press releases? My guess is that there should be a standardized system of issuing statements to the press. The press releases ought to be posted online, where media reporters and county residents (and anyone else) can read them.

Instead, what seems to happen is that information is handed out to selected reporters and media, and it may or may not ever reach the public.

It would be an easy task to post the daily blotter on the Sheriff's Department website. Right now it collects dust in the Administration Office of the Sheriff's Department. You can go and read it, if you want to make a trip to the Courthouse, park, pass through security and go to the second floor during normal business hours.

A summary of statistics could also be easily published on the Sheriff's website. How about traffic activity? Accidents? Tickets? Warrants served? Jail numbers (in/out)?

Maybe add a special column to indicate the days when the Sheriff actually showed up in the o0ffice for a full day's work.

You made an entire post about what the Sheriff posts and you are going to "guess" that it doesn't meet CALEA standards.

Hey thanks for the guess. I guess your posts don't mean much.

Further, I would argue that the Sheriff should post less information about their activities. The internet is making it apparent that it is a permenent record--in the future when someone who has been arrested by the Sheriff, or released from jail etc. if it is posted on the internet they will not be able to redact it. So for all of those who went to trial and got not guilty findings by the jury (and totally deserve to have no record of their arrest)--you idea defeats that. Way to go...

If you want figures I am sure you can FOIA them, but I am always amazed by your starting position: that the Sheriff has somehow not done his job because you don't like him. I am going to have to look up wackadoodle in the dictionary.

Ray, you miss the point, We have NO Sheriff!

I would assume that they are out on the streets doing what all Police or Sheriff Departments do. Making life better and safer for the citizens of McHenry County. Just because they don't boast about what they do or print it in a newspaper doesn't mean they aren't doing anything.

Thanks, Big Daddy. I think the folks in the County would be interested in knowing the number of traffic tickets written, the number of DUIs arrested, the number of trucks inspected and how many were over-weight or had faulty equipment, how many crashes were investigated, how many people were booked in the jail, how many people were transferred out of the jail, how many detainees there are in the ICE Unit. Just a few thinks like that.

Why do Ray and others continue to read your blog, Gus?

It just makes them angry and it just makes people like me laugh at them for being so far up Nygren's ass.

What are they going to do when the old man leaves and Primm beats Zinke?

If they had half a brain they would start looking for a back up plan to that whole retiring as a deputy pipe dream.

A new age is dawning and people like "Ray" are going to riding the unemployment train if they don't get out now.

Do you think they would be interested in those things? Aren't they busy living their lives? I know I am.

Let's take a poll!

This might be your hobby, passion, calling or WHATEVER you want to call it,but do you really think most of us have the time much less the energy? I am caring for an ailing parent, trying to keep a difficult marriage together, pay the bills for college tuition, shop, cook, clean and then get up and do it all again. How many people were booked in jail is not even on my radar.

That's why we have you. I guess. This will be my last post. Your hypotheticals, your inane questions, your antiquated mind. I just realized I don't have time for this "guilty pleasure" either. Adios, Frank.

Here is some more for you Gus.

Please print these links. I know the MCSO clowns read the comments thoroughly. Give them ulcers.

Joey...Ray is a well known local defense attorney who is known for his defense of those accused of DUI...If you are saying he will be headed to unemployment if Primm were elected then are you saying under Primm's leadership the Sheriff's dept. would no longer be giving on DUI's?

Ray is not known to be Pro"any incumbent" but usually chimes in when the local tin foil hat crowd goes a bit overboard.

As far as the original post...are you really trying to say that the measure of how well a law enforcement agency is protecting it's citizens is by having more local crime to report?

ABZ for Sheriff (Anyone But Zinke) said...

How well known? What's his name?

Ray Flavin-don't you read this blog? Oops, sorry Joey R-wrong again aren't you. Care to change that little tirade about another one working for Nygren? Probably not, since it would ruin your standing as another wanna-be "grump".

I know Ray! Handsome fellow!
http://www.rayflavin.com/bio.html

He wasn't involved with getting that Northwest Herald guy out of his DUI's, was he?

DUI lawyers are the cream of the crop when it comes to legal representation. I bet he is a avid supporter of MADD.

Why on earth would a guy who's represents criminals be such a fan of Nygren and the boys?

Perhaps there is something we don't know.

Wow, take some time off and the kids just mess the place up! Merry Christmas everyone.

Did we find a troll on Gusblog??

It's gotta be tough taking anonymous shots at a local attorney, probably the only way you could.

How am I a Nygren supporter? I am a anti-dumbass, and I am adding you to my list, unless you start making sense. As far as Gus goes, and I am pretty sure he will even tell you this is correct ... if he says something I disagree with .. I disagree and state my reasons, if he says something I agree with, I also say that I agree ...

I am just not a big fan of dumbassery.

On to your DUI attorney rant. Wow, you picked such a big target .. I am surprised you didn't hit it.

Just to set the record straight, I don't represent criminals, I represent people ... My last five DUI trials (all this year ... you can look it up ... were Not Guilty's).

Many will ask me why I engage someone like you, well it's just because I want to understand you, so why don't you give some support to your rants, and we can have a discussion.

You really thought I was a deputy?

nice, really nice.

Oh, and another thing, you suggested that I was somehow mad at Gus? Weird. What was I mad at? That I disagree? Umm, no I am not mad at Gus. Sometimes I am disappointed that he seems to ignore an obvious point, but I am not mad at him.

If I really wanted a dog to play a piano, but despite all my training the dog couldn't play the piano ... I wouldn't be mad at the dog.

In fact we pass in court all the time ... we say "hi."

ABZ for Sheriff (Anyone But Zinke) said...

MADD is Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Seriously? Seriously! Did your five wins come against deputies?

Ray said...

AAIM is Alliance against Intoxicated Motorists (probably formed after the MADD president got a DUI).

None of my cases were "wins," they were simply the trier of fact considering the evidence and ruling.

You call them "wins?" It's not a game. My father was killed by an impaired driver. I take my cases very seriously.
