What's this pole for?

Have you seen the new, gigantic pole on Route 47 between U.S. 14 and Lake Avenue? It's right in front of the new Floor Store and just south of Woodstock Farm and Lawn Center. Are we getting ready for our own 1,500-foot tower?

Probably ComEd has something to do with this, but what? There is a similar pole on the east side of Route 47 near Lucas Road. What is this huge, unsightly pole for, and how many of them are planned?

Does anyone know?

Must be a replacement telephone or power pole for the one leaning in the background.

Well, right, but look at the size of it. I mean, that hummer is huge! The pole is bolted to a poured-concrete base with very large nuts on bolts.

They would appear to be for new transmission lines to replace the existing ones that run along 47. My question is do they meet highway safety standards. They are pretty close to the road and they definitely will not "break away" upon impact from a car. Are they safe to be a few feet off the road? Hmmm..........

find the owners manual you fool said...

Yes, lets assume IDOT knows nothing about these.

That IS safe to assume.
