Vandals tag water tower

This week-end vandals tagged the Hill Street water tower, spraying graffiti on the legs of the tower and the buildings. Cost to the City for clean-up? $1,000? $2,000? More?

This is the kind of stupidity that must stop in Woodstock. It will only stop by residents' banding together and taking back our town. Young men and women are welcome here; all races, colors, etc. are welcome here. They are welcome here as long as they abide by the laws.
When they don't? They are no longer welcome here.
Somebody knows who is responsible for this. You can call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 800.762.STOP. Provide the information confidentially and you should be given a Tip Number and instructions how to monitor the progress of the usefulness of your tip.

How fast will the Woodstock Area Crime Stoppers announce a reward? Does it even have any money available for a reward?

The vandals should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. How about 30 days in the County Jail? Sixty days? Make an example out of them and provide a deterrent for others. It's too bad they can't be caught immediately, tried and, if convicted, sentenced to clean up their juvenile tags.

These tags must be recognizable by the Woodstock Police. Which gang is responsible?

Will the police announce with which gang these symbols are connected? How about photos of gang members on the police department website?

There had to be more than one tagger involved. Didn't any of the neighbors notice or hear anything?

Maybe you, Shirley and your pink berets should start a band of roaming vigilantes. After reading the police blotter I don't think the police are being layabouts in any respect to their jobs.

Vigilantes might just be the answer, or a form thereof. In many towns, citizens roam the streets at night, usually in pairs, looking for miscreants. Then they call the police.

The police cannot be everywhere at once. A look-out with a phone could alert taggers to approaching patrol cars, and then they duck.

No reason the cops would have been keeping a particular eye out, but neighbors could pay attention to a barking dog in the middle of the night. Or a car on the path to the water tower.

I'll tell you what moves gangs. Constant contact with them when they are roaming the streets. Make contact cards on everyone in the crowd. Then they know they'v been ID'ed at a particular spot.

Gosh, hard to believe no one has thought of that before....oh wait, profiling again. They must not have had to worry about that in ancient Mesopotamia.

Oh gussy, those aren't gang symbols. It says "VAGRANT"... yeah the dumb a$$ kid who wrote it is a vagrant, but I doubt he is a gang banger.
