Start Seeing Motorcycles

Motorcycle accidents have already started happening in McHenry County.

Driver turn in front of motorcycles. Drivers cross intersections in front of motorcycles. Drivers pull out in front of motorcycles.

This IDOT banner says it all - "Start Seeing Motorcycles".

And, motorcyclists, increase your awareness and alertness to maneuvers by drivers of other vehicles that might put you at risk. Check the equipment on your bike (lights, horn, etc.). If you ride a ninja-style bike, be aware that your low profile reduces your visibility. Slow down to the speed limit. And no wheelies!

How many accidents have there already been in McHenry County? The "ninja-style" low profile statement is incorrect information trotted out to categorize and marginalize a certain class of motorcycles and inflame prejudices for people who don't question what they read.

"Slow down to the speed limit. And no wheelies."

Profiling pure and simple.

Hey tiredofthenonsense,

I am questioning what I just read
and you haven't a clue to whats going on.
I drove the toll way for over 30Years and have seen many bikers and IT'S THE NINJA BIKERS that do wheelies,ZOOM in and out in front of you and pass you at very excessive speeds on the white line between lanes. NOW this is almost 100% of the cases, I have never observed a biker on a "Normal" bike do this
Where does your info come from?
I have over a million miles logged on Illinois roads

Same as yours. Personal experience. By 'normal' bike I assume you mean the street legal farm implements from Milwaukee and the like. The main reason they don't enjoy the antics of the sport biker crowd is that they cannot join in. Lack of personal or machine ability stops them. They do however certainly like excessively loud exhaust systems. Hows that for generalizing or 'profiling' if you prefer.

You don't like sport bikes. I don't like 'cruisers'. You make their rides miserable and I'll do the same for the cruisers.

tired, you are confusing their "rides" with their riding habits.

Sounds like you condone wheelies, lane-splitting, speeding, reckless riding (zig-zagging in heavy traffic), speed-contest acceleration on city streets.

There are "loud" pipes, and there are "excessively loud" pipes. Any annoyance is probably due to the rider's acceleration habit. And when a "pack" of bikers passes by.

The slight rumble of a solo bike passing by most likely bothers no one.
