Janet Napolitano is going to get the next letter. I don't know what she really does for a living, but she obviously has no knowledge of how the Chicago I.C.E. office is run.
It is virtually impossible to reach a live person through the Chicago Field Office telephone number at 312.347.2400!
Messages left at the Customer Service Desk are not returned. A person, whose name cannot be understood on her voicemail message, leaves for a long week-end without returning calls. She gives her supervisor's name, and that person doesn't return calls, either.
The recorded message for bonding out a detainee does not include where the bond is to be paid or the normal business hours for doing so. That message just says to expect to wait. Should I take a pillow and sleeping bag? Maybe a cooler with some subs and a few beers?
Are all these people stupid or just uncaring? Was the jargon for the voicemail messages determined in Washington, D.C.? If so, that may explain some of the problems!
It shouldn't be so hard to find out 1) where the bond can be posted (at which of the many DHS/I.C.E. offices downtown) or 2) during what hours or 3) how long to expect to wait for the detainee. Do they accept bonds seven days a week, 24 hours a day?
Will they be closed tomorrow, Good Friday? I wouldn't think so. You know, separation of church and state, and all that stuff. But you never know, anymore.
This must be a huge operation and ought to be running smoothly. Yeah, right....

Gus, if memory serves, the Immigration Service was hit with a class action lawsuit many years ago that resulted in better service and more humane treatment of the people that it supposed to serve.
The last few years they have returned to their abusive, don't-give-a-damn ways.
Sadly, most of the public don't say anything because of all the prefudice heaped upon the latest influx of immigrants - as of late, Mexicans.
Strange that this occurs in a country that is comprised almost exclusively of recent descendants of immigrants.
Richard, thanks for your insight.
This is my first experience with I.C.E.
I will have to write about my experience at the court hearing yesterday, which was very positive.
Illinois is a "SANTUARY STATE".
Mexican Illegals live here unbothered yet immigrants from other countries, whether legal or not, are scrutinized and detained by ICE. Mexicans are hands off.
Hundreds of ILLEGAL Mexicans congregated openly, receiving bogus ID cards from the Mexican Consular General at Russell and Seminary (Now the Treasures Office). While at the same time, ICE agents drive by with bus loads of Chinese, S/E Asian and European undocumented detainees, ignoring the crowd of illegal Mexicans.
If local police have undocumented Illegal Mexican's in custody, under arrest ICE will not detain them.
Hundreds of Illegal Mexicans PROTEST openly in Chicago for "RIGHTS".....never a handcuff or INS Agent to be seen.
This reeks!!!
