Deputy Milliman First Amendment rights

For an interesting discussion of the First Amendment rights of McHenry County Sheriff's Department Deputy Scott Milliman, see today's article on McHenry County Blog.

Federal Judge Kapala probably has about 100 years of work ahead of his in this case, as he determines whether Scott Milliman should be hammered for telling the truth in a deposition in Zane Seipler's case against MCSD and Sheriff Nygren.

The sheriff's attorney and law firm must be licking their collective chops over all the fees they are earning for traveling from Bartlett out to Rockford and back. I wonder if they are charging McHenry County the full hourly rate for commuting time. Think so?

I've written before that a person who is subpoenaed to give a deposition must tell the truth.

Cal Skinner reprinted a portion of Judge Kapala's decision - “The context of the speech, at least alleged in the complaint, was that Milliman was subpoenaed to testify in a deposition and…his speech was mandatory and required to be truthful under penalty of perjury.”

Do you suppose any agency (say, maybe the FBI) is investigating Nygren? Is Nygren watching each page fall off the calendar toward the end of his current term of office on November 30, 2014? If he can make it to that date without getting burned, will he be home free?
