Home fire - just how suspicious?

A house fire and one fatality are being investigated in Crystal Lake, according to the Northwest Herald. In an article first published at 9:33AM and supplemented at 2:19PM, the paper reported that Crystal Lake Police were dispatched at 7:33AM.

O.K., so then the house, in the 1700 block of Moorland Lane, must be in Crystal Lake.

The paper reports that a "deputy of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department had discovered 'suspicious circumstances'."

If the house is in Crystal Lake, how did it happen that a deputy of MCSD discovered suspicious circumstances. What was a deputy doing at a house within the jurisdiction of the City of Crystal Lake? Was the deputy on-duty and there in an official capacity? Had there been some type of disturbance at the house prior to the fire?

Was a deputy just driving by, saw smoke and ran in to save the occupants? If the house is in Crystal Lake, why would the McHenry County Sheriff's Department be part of an investigation, as reported by the paper?

Was anyone injured before, during or after the fire? Anyone transported to the hospital? The identity of the deceased male is being withheld, pending the proper notifications.

Kast time I looked, Crystal Lake is within McHenry CO and deputies serve warrants, serve papers, do follow-ups and drive village streets criss crossing through towns going from one call to another rather than driving AROUND the city limits responding.

It wasn't any of those. Much more to come out.

According to the paper I was correct. She was found drunk out in the county and they drove her home. That is part of follow up. Rather than enter the Kingdom of Crystal Lake should they stop at the city limits sign and have her walk or call CLPD.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Department is not a taxi service (unless you have political connections like the guy who was accused of stealing a political sign in Algonquin). If the woman was drunk, perhaps they should have taken her to the hospital or to MCSD. Then let her call a cab.

In this case, it's good that the deputy drove her home and found the fire. As soon as he saw furniture or appliances turned over to block doors, he should have called C.L. PD. What will the Coroner determine to be the cause and manner of death? Smoke? Or something else?

Big question is why Mizell's wife was found 12 miles from home, drunk, at 6:15AM.
