Beth Bentley vanished 119 weeks ago. Was it on May 23, 2010? Or May 22? Or May 21? Or May 20?
One person knows. Two-three know. Maybe half a dozen know.
Is there any public clamor for finding her?
When was the last time a news article about Beth appeared in the Northwest Herald or the Daily Herald? Or the Chicago Tribune or Sun-Times? Has there ever been an article in The Woodstock Independent?
So far as I know, there has never been a real search. Of course, you need some type of clue for a location to begin a search. Maybe one good place would have been in Mount Vernon, Ill. Like, maybe, immediately after she vanished. At the house where she was thought to have spent the week-end with her traveling buddy. And the two brothers.
If Beth was believed to have had dinner on Friday night, May 21, 2010, with Jenn Wyatt and Ryan and Nathan Ridge at the Frosty Mug in Mount Vernon, why weren't all Mug employees immediately interviewed by officials then? One waitress reportedly waited on them and remembered them. Later, an attempt was made to discredit that waitress on a Facebook page, asserting that Beth was in the Frosty Mug two weeks earlier. But that was Mothers Day week-end 2010, when some said she was in St. Louis with the Mystery Man at a gorgeous hotel.
The Woodstock Police Department has been characteristically silent. I can understand police silence in a criminal case. But this is a Missing Person case. In missing person cases don't police solicit the help of a community, in order to develop leads?
Why was Beth identified by police as an Endangered Missing Person? Did she have a medical condition that might have become apparent to many as time passed? Would she have needed treatment for that medical condition? Was she at any risk of personal harm because of that condition? Did she have a doctor who knew of that condition? Is there proof of that condition? Would that condition have expired or become moot after a period of time, on its own?
If you begin asking around the Woodstock community about Beth, will people now say "Beth who?" and "Oh, is she still missing?"
Yes, she is still missing. For two years and two months!

The lack of any news on this case is astounding. No one but you and a small handful of others seems to care. Even her family seems to prefer hiding in the shadows. I really do not get it Gus!!!
If one of my precious daughters went missing the police would have no choice but to get to bottom of things just to get me out of their faces.
Where oh where IS the family, husband and parents at on this???
I just do not get it.
The family has gone nowhere. We are still here, we just do not support a blog that does nothing more then attack the family rather then what we hope for in drawing public attention. The REAL media has told us repeatedly that they are not interested in running anymore coverage unless something new happens in the case.
So Debra, who are you? Do you know any single one of us as the family or my mother? I assume the answer to that is no you do not know us, so you don't have any idea what we do. So who do you think you are to say we "hide in the shadows." We do not "hide." We keep in contact with the detectives, and the information we are given cannot be shared with the public for the sake of their investigation.
If you, or Gus, honestly believe we do so little and it is because of us as the family that she is still missing, try to fill our shoes and do the job better. If eiher of you honestly think you can find a missing person so easily lets see you do better. Let me tell you, until you are in this position, it is easier said then done.
Whichever family member you are, I feel for you and I truly hope that your dear relative, Beth Bentley, is finally found and that whomever is responsible for her disappearance is brought to justice, if there was any type of foul play involved.
It seems like the 'real' media would jump all over this case for a number of reasons. As far as new information, there is a bit - Jen Wyatt's arrest seems highly unusual for one thing. Also, it seems as though they might be interested in having the 'record set straight' - it seems as though the information that was put out there at first, was somewhat misleading - perhaps it is what was thought to be true at the time but isn't it true that Beth had no intention to take the train after all - that is sort of new as far as the media? Also, there was soo little information given in the first place, such as why Beth is listed as 'endangered missing'. If that information could be released, that might be considered 'new' and might be helpful to get out there.
Typically in missing person's cases, the police want to have contact with the public, through the media, to ask for the public's help. Because there appears to be so much doubt about where she actually went missing, it seems even more of a reason for the police to appeal to the public for information. I understand that you have to cope with the extremely stressful task of playing the hand you are dealt and none of us can really know what you are going through but when I try to imagine myself in your place, I see me putting as much pressure as possible on the police to get this story back out there. There is information that police often hold close to the vest but after 2+ yrs with possibly little leads, it might be time to change strategy and many depts do that at this point in the case, from what I can tell. A public appeal from the police might go a long way - ideally through state-wide if not nation-wide media.
I don't think Gus has poor intentions here - he really is the only person posting anything on the case on a regular basis. I've said it before, unless and until something better comes along, I wish that there could be a meeting of the minds between Gus and the family but no one can force that and you have to do what you have to do. Meanwhile, I continue to keep Beth and your family in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Chris Broderick
I would love to see anyone of you hold up under the scrutiny this family has been held under! What has happened is a bunch of people that were concerned at the beginning have become judge and juror. If the police told you not to say a word if this were a family member I am willing to bet you would keep your mouth shut.
If you have read lately the media and journalist pick certain people tthis are missing to represent, they had better be attractive and young and white. Because most journalist aren't interested in older, black, or unattractive people. They pick women over men. They pick young over old, they pick white over black. And it goes on and on. Even through Beth is a attractive woman,,, ,she is OLDER.. Children are treated the same way. Black children and black men and women are overlooked.
I believe Gus means well in a weird twisted sick way. I believe he is concerned. But I have met people who attack others when they are struggling, why? Beats me it seems instead of judging this family they would want to reach out and help the people Beth Loved the Most...which is her Children!
This post along with all the other posts isn't going to change a thing, her Son's post where he asked you to stop and instead help fell on deaf ears. Your Ego's make me laugh. It is about being holier than shit instead of getting off your ass and doing something. Gus has enough people reading this blog to do something good. And Chris...you could also do something to help. Debra always has her mouth open and bitching so get off your ass and make phone calls! And ask the media to listen. Maybe you people can get some where that others couldn't!
This article is more about being right and justified. And a frigging unseen war that is being battled. Well no one is winning. Beth is still missing. Gus and Debra got their stab in the heart and are feeling pretty proud.
Sherrie, you don't know me and you have no idea what I have or have not done - that is not an argument, it is a fact.
It is also a fact that the media takes interest in stories about 'older' women every day, especially blonde, causian women with young children who go missing under strange circumstances. Whether they have an interest in Beth's story remains to be seen.
As I said, I hope and pray for Beth, her family and friends. There is no ego on my part, only concern, Sherrie.
