A resident with a police scanner has let me know that he has been hearing frequent calls about thefts of GPSs from vehicles in Woodstock.
Putting your scanner out of sight, such as in the console or glovebox, might not be enough. The bracket on the dashboard or stuck to the windshield might be enough to attract the attention of a smash-and-grab thief.
It's a shame to think that some punk will cause $300 worth of glass damage to a vehicle to get a GPS that he'll trade for $10 worth of drugs, but it's happening.
A report has been made to the Woodstock Police Department for some numbers as to the thefts occurring in Woodstock.
And, if you see the thief in action, get a good look at his vehicle and license plate. Call the Woodstock Police (815-338-2131 / program this number behind Speed-Dial "9" on your cell phone). Then all you'll have to do is press-and-hold "9" to reach the Woodstock P.D., if your phone works like mine.

Our area has issues with GPS theft, and then they go a week or two later and replace it...only to leave it in the car AGAIN and have it stolen AGAIN. Brilliant.
Attn., Detectives. Check for people in your area who just bought stock in BestBuy or in Garmin.
