I want my driver's license!

On the evening of January 3 the Northwest Herald published a story about the driver of a U-Haul truck that crashed into the Woodstock office of the Illinois Secretary of State about 6:30PM.

What in the world did they ever due to him? Maybe he was irritated that the office closed on time at 5:30PM.

It was a short story (not the type that would win an essay contest), and there has been no follow-up. I've seen a photo of the U-Haul truck in the SOS office. It was all the way inside the office and about 15 feet from the outside wall. It's a good thing that the office was closed, because the truck was right where customers would have been standing to get driver's licenses.

A witness apparently saw the driver sitting in the truck before he drove it through the wall into the office.

A fire district captain did not identify the driver, and the Woodstock Police are not mentioned in the article. There has been no follow-up news article.

Who was the driver? Was he ticketed? The crash happened off the public roadway. Could the police still ticket him? Was he sober? If not, maybe they could. Is there still a Vehicular Control Agreement in effect for that property, as there was when the Jewel-Osco was open there? Or did the VCA expire?

Was the driver charged with destruction of State property?

Did the reporter ever try to get more information out of the Police Department?

Doesn't the Secretary of State have their own police?

Yes. It seems to me that, even if they handled the investigation of damage to State property, Woodstock Police would have been involved and have crash details to release.

The SOS Police were helpful in one aspect of the investigation into Beth Bentley's disappearance that I'll bet the Woodstock Police never looked at.

Longer hours, too... Thanks, Joe!
