Congratulations to the movers and shakers in Crystal Lake who succeeded in their work to become a Main Street community in Illinois.
It's hard work to become a Main Street community. It takes cooperation and perseverance, something that Crystal Lake has.
You can read the article in the Northwest Herald here.
Why is it that Woodstock cannot stick with it and become a Main Street community in Illinois? We tout our Square. It's a jewel that needs polishing.
A few years ago there was interest in becoming accredited by the Main Street Illinois organization. There was the Woodstock Downtown Business Association (WDBA) then, and there was tremendous friction generated at the Chamber of Commerce, which apparently viewed the WDBA as "competition". It wasn't, but the jealousy was clear. And unnecessary.
Woodstock, in the center of McHenry County, ought to be the centerpiece of the County. Everyone says that Woodstock has so much to offer. Let's stop being the "best-kept secret" in the County.
The Chamber could be the leader of the Main Street effort. Instead?
