I had a really good laugh this morning, when I read the headline to the Northwest Herald article about the Cubs and their fight for more advertising revenues.
The headline? "Ricketts says moving is an option; team insists that shouldn't be considered a threat". Well, that was the headline in the print edition. Online, the headline read, "Analysis: Ricketts decides to play hardball on Wrigley renovations.
Har-har-har. Of course, it's a threat. It's right out of The Bully's Playbook.
Ricketts is saying, "If you don't play my way, I'll take my marbles and go home."
What does he want, among other things? A 6,000 sq. ft. video board in left field.
How big is 6,000 sq. ft.? 30' high x 200' long - or - 40' high x 150' long - or - 50' high x 120' long - or - 60' high x 100' long
What do you think Tommy has in mind?
Remember the good, ol' days, when you went to a ball game and you could afford a couple of dogs and a beer? How much do they soak you for beers now? $7? And you can't even get a good (slightly burnt) hot dog on a fresh bun these days.
And you get to watch shaggy-haired ball players scratch themselves and spit and fight.
Whatever happened to America's Favorite Game?
Call Tommy's bluff. When he moves out, make him demolish Wrigley Field, clear up all the toxic waste and level it for development.
Cubs Communications' Vice-Prez Julian Green probably deserves an Academy Award for his performance of "It's Not a Threat", when he apparently said he "didn't believe Ricketts' comments should be considered a threat..." Maybe he is auditioning for a role at the White House. Or maybe he hopes to catch Rahm's eye, next time Rahm burns through a mouthpiece.
