Dep. Woods' injury - by what kind of bullet

Cal Skinner published an article on McHenry County Blog (www.mchenrycountyblog.com) about the County's purchase of frangible ammunition that was in use on the day of Woods' injury, March 15, 2010.

See Cal's article of April 30, entitled "Shooting Range Ammo Used Day Eric Woods Got Wounded" and be sure to read the two comments (Comments #7 and #8) of "Charles Roberts", in which "Roberts" surmises that Woods' was injured not by a frangible round, but instead by a traditional round, which didn't fragment (or dissolve into powder) when it hit the steel target frame just to Woods' right.

Eric Woods is one lucky deputy!

What check was done by the rangemaster to confirm that all deputies were firing frangible rounds?

Sheriff Nygren, still think Woods just had "road rash"?

Read Justins comment which makes more sence to me and has some internet links. 5.56 vs 223. sometimes 5.56 are used mistakenly in a 223. If Hart said he used a 5.56, this was the wrong ammo.

Dep. Hart's report reads, "As I entered the room, I encountered an attacking dog (shoot) target on a steel plate. I engaged the target with one round of 5.56 cal to reduce the threat."

I commend Dep. Hart for reporting truthfully what transpired.

A careful investigation ought to reveal what bullet he fired and, if not a frangible round, how it happened that he fired on the steel target with the round he used.
