State treats pre-school programs unequally

This morning's Northwest Herald reports that the Harvard School District 50 will receive $428,000 out of the $500,000 state grant it expected for its pre-school program. That's 85.6% of the money it expected.

Contrast that with the $68,000 that Woodstock School District 200 received out of the $1,000,000 grant it expected. That's 6.8%!!!

How come Harmilda has more clout than Woodstock Willie?

Who decides how much of the pot of gold gets doled out? Is it the Illinois State Board of Education that slices up the pie or does the size of the piece of pie get decided in the Comptroller's office?

If you think District 200 ought to get more than 6.8% of its grant request, when Harvard gets 85.6%, call Rep. Jack Franks (815.334.0063 or 217.782.1717) and Sen. Pam Althoff (815.455.6330 or 217.782.8000) today.
