According to the McHenry County Sheriff's Department and the Northwest Herald, a man attempted to abduct a young girl on her way to West Elementary School in Crystal Lake this morning. Pictured is a VW Passat, which may or may not be a likeness of the suspect's vehicle.
The press release from the Sheriff's Department reads:
"On 02/10/2010 between 0835 hrs. and 0847 hrs., an unknown male approached a nine year old female who was walking to school at the intersection of Briarwood Dr. and North Av., Crystal Lake, Illinois. The offender asked the victim if she wanted a ride to school. When the victim said no, the offender told her to get into the car. The victim then ran into West Elementary School which was yards away.
"The victim described the unknown male as being approximately 30-40 yrs. of age, having tan skin and dark brown hair. The victim stated that the unknown male was clean shaven and did not wear glasses or any other jewelry.
"The victim described the unknown male's vehicle as being gold in color four door vehicle with a round body style. When the victim was shown pictures of vehicles, she picked out a Volkswaggen Passat with a silver in color stripe on the side of the vehicle, similar to the picture above (different vehicle image appears in MCSD press release). However, the victim was not positive on her identification. No license plate information was obtained.
