If the public only knew ... Now you do.

Yesterday I received a scathing e-mail. Even though it said "print this", I double-checked with the sender to be sure. In reply, the sender re-stated permission to publish and added:

"Yeah I want you to print it. Add in there...coming soon...missing narcotics money, sexual harassment, drunken escapades of MCHENRY COUNTIES FINEST SUPERVISORS."

Here is the e-mail received yesterday:

"I don't know you and up until recently I couldn't stand you. Some of the articles you wrote were petty complaints about police officers I like. Lately that's all changed. I read your articles about the Susan O'Grady case and I thought I would inform you about some other things that relate to the two mentioned supervisors. This may come as a shock to you but these guys have been in trouble before. More shocking, for man handling a woman, a police officer at that. A certain Sergeant was drunk at a bar on a night in 2007. This Sergeant decided to drive home. A female deputy (deputy 1) tried to stop him and he man handled her in the middle of Rt. 47. Another female deputy witnessed the incident (deputy 2). Deputy 1 contacted a certain Lieutenant, (this Lieutenant happens to be her ex-boyfriend) and tells him of the incident. The Lieutenant does nothing. A couple of days later Deputy 2 reports the incident and after some resistance at work an investigation takes place. Horrible rumors fly about deputies 1 and 2. Low and behold no criminal charges are filed, no one loses their job. As a matter of fact a total of 3 supervisors get suspensions. They all kept their rank.

"Later the certain Sergeant is spotted going to his alcohol-anonymous (AA) meetings in a marked squad car. (good example)

"These 2 supervisors have been in several situations over the years. The Sergeant at one point was a K9 unit and he was involved in a car chase up in Spring Grove.(rt 173) He calls out over the radio that he is in pursuit of a possible DUI and that the driver of the vehicle was throwing "contraband" out of the window. Spring Grove assisted in the pursuit and low and behold the driver of the car was a certain Lieutenant. A investigation was conducted and "maybe" a mistake was made.

"Another story, this Sergeant and this Lieutenant were once employed, together, at a gentleman's (strip) club in Wauconda. An investigation was conducted but "maybe" a mistake was made.

"Car accidents- A certain Lieutenant should have his driving record made public. He's well over 5 in his career. I doubt he's gotten any tickets.

"There is also a rumor of a certain Lieutenant being arrested up in Wisconsin for a bar fight. I'm sure that's not in his record either.

"Why tell you this? Enough is enough. Someone has to stop this. Print this, get this out there. These guys are making all cops look bad.

"I'll write you about the rest of the stuff some other time."

Does this person sound a little angry? No! This person is A LOT angry. This person is not alone. More and more employees are speaking out, because they are sick and tired of what has gone on for years there. Could a book - an expose' - be written about the McHenry County Sheriff's Department? Should such a book be written?
