Winnebago County is poised to consider issuing permits for the carrying of concealed weapons Could it have figured out a way to allow law-abiding citizens to protect themselves?
Will Winnebago County be able to do what the State of Illinois will not? Is it close enough that the effort might rub off on McHenry County?
The County Board will consider an ordinance requiring the county sheriff to issue a license to carry to law abiding Winnebago County residents that pass the necessary requirements. Note that the wording is not "may issue" or "can issue." It is "...requiring the county sheriff to issue..."; i.e., it is a "shall issue" direction. What this means is that, if the applicant for a license to carry a concealed weapon meets the criteria established, then the sheriff must issue the license. No discretion. No politics. No favoritism. In Illinois? What a novel idea!
A sub-committee of the county board is to address the proposed ordinance. You can attend its meeting or you can express your opinions. If you wish to express your opinion online, go to http://www.fredwescott.com/ to post your comment.
If you would like to attend the next meeting of the sub-committee, it will be held on Tuesday, June10th, at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall located at 211 N. Main St. in Rockford, Ill.
Wish I could make it back the 1,000 miles from Florida to be there. Good luck, Winnebago County residents.
You know? Right-to-carry is popular in many areas of Illinois. Central and downstate Illinois residents want it. Many northern Illinois residents want it. But many northern Illinois law enforcement leaders and politicians don't want it, and they have sufficient clout in Springfield to prevent the rest of us from having a valuable right to defend ourselves (and to go to the defense of others).
