About 3:15PM today (Friday, June 13) I came across three WPD squad cars and one Illinois State Police car at the corner of Throop and Calhoun Streets, just across the street from City Hall. Whatever had happened was over, and there were still plenty of onlookers present.
Woodstock Police had at least one man in custody in the parking lot on the northwest corner. A taller, young man with blonde hair was in handcuffs and was being watched by one officer.
One bystander said that there had been a knife fight. Another said that, when she walked over from the Square, officers were separating two males.
In view of the knifing recently on South Eastwood, south of the bp gas station recently, will this be a long, hot summer? That knifing took place after two men followed two other men in the early morning hours on Tuesday.
Our police officers are to be commended for fast response and for getting suspects into custody quickly. Thanks, officers!
Keep an eye on your neighbors' homes. Watch for loiterers. Watch for gawkers who don't seem to belong in your neighborhood, especially if they are ringing doorbells, asking unusual questions or peering into open garages.
All residents are urged to report every suspicious activity immediately to the Woodstock Police Department at 815.338.2131 or by dialing 9-1-1 in an emergency. Police officers would rather respond and check out suspicious activity than find out later that a crime had gone unreported for hours.
