Just noticed an agenda item on the June 4 Woodstock City Council for a proposed stop sign on Country Club Road at the entrance to Bull Valley Country Club.
Man! You can't turn your back on government for two seconds. Did they pass it? The Minutes of the June 4th City Council meeting are not yet posted.
Why should traffic have to stop there 24/7? What a dumb idea! Was the Council smart enough to vote it down?
Is that intersection even in Woodstock?
How many crashes have there been at that corner? Any? Isn't that how decisions are made to install stop signs? If Country Club residents are a little inconvenienced when leaving home, is that a good enough reason to inconvenience EVERY driver on Country Club Road. NO!
No doubt it got approved without discussion as part of the Consent Agenda.

I believe in order to install a STOP sign, there had to have been a good cause...ie accidents. I also believe it is against the law to impose STOP signs and speed limit zones to impede the traffic flow.
I also believe it is against the law to lower speed zone to a lower speed in excess of 15 mph at any given time.
IDOT actually follows a rule in the national Manual of Standards about lowering speed limits more than 10MPH. It's called an Altered Speed Zone.
If the speed limit is lowered more than 10MPH (ex., on eastbound South Street, entering Woodstock from the west), the speed limit drops from 55 to 40. A warning sign is required, but there isn't one there.
The lower speed limit is in Woodstock. The warning sign would be required in Seneca Township, which apparently won't pay for Woodstock's decision. And apparently Woodstock won't pay for it. And McHenry DOT won't install it.
So, eastbound drivers are not warned, as required by the Manual. Maybe the new City Manager and a new Public Works Director will see their responsibilities differently.
At the last city council meeting I went to RB thompson was the only one asking questions about the reduced speed limit in Sonatas subdivision. He was asking whether there was a real problem and if there were any citizen's that actually complained about it and the other council members response was that there president of the subdivision was there so he represented all the citizens in that subdivision. RB Thompson was the only one who voted against that because they could not give a good reason for reducing the speed limit and all the other council members voted for it without a second thought. I can only imagine if thats how they voted on the reduced speed limit in the subdivision with no good reason that they would of voted in favor of this stop sign for no good reason.
What was the speed limit change in the Sonatas? Was there any mention of a "speed study"?
Instead of seven independent thinkers, there are too many followers on the Woodstock City Council.
They actually did have a speed study but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. RB Thompson said if we do it for this subdivision than we will have to do it for all of them but the other council members dismissed that. It was only 30mph down to 25 but the point is they couldn't give a single reason as to why to change it or any proof that the members of the subidivision wanted it changed. I don't think they took RB Thompson seriously but regardless of how small the change is I encourage that type of thinking. I actually sent RB an email thanking him for actually raising question's and standing up for what he thinks is right.
RB is often the only one to ask the "hard" questions. Everyone else just goes the way the Mayor wants.
