Gov. appoints spokeswoman

Be sure to read the Chicago Tribune article about Gov. Quinn's appointment to head the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority. Quinn appointed Kelly Kraft, who had served as his mouthpiece (err, spokeswoman).

Kraft's pay is not mentioned in the article.

A recent photo opp of the Tollway and IDOT leaders shows Quinn is not shy about appointing female heads to Illinois agencies.

I'm all in favor of hiring the best person, male or female, for a job, but members of the board of directors seemed to question whether Kraft's previous employment as a reporter and spokeswoman for the guv made her more qualified than the other contender for the position, who had been CFO for the Chicago Public Schools and Sara Lee Corp.

Board member Jim Reynolds told the Tribune, "The qualifications between these two candidates for this position are not even remotely close."

When I read that, I was reminded of a "job interview" I had heard on recording of the Best of Comic Relief show of March 29, 1986. Martin Short played Ed Grimley. This one is funny enough to watch over and over. The YouTube video is somewhat shorter than the full version on Comic Relief.
