Webster resigns

Ralph Webster is resigning from the Woodstock City Council, according to an article published earlier this morning on the Northwest Herald website. Webster, also Chief of the Woodstock Fire Rescue District, was elected to a term of office that was to end in the Spring of 2011.

Webster was recently elected president of the Illinois Fire Chiefs' Association and said that time commitments now no longer allow him to serve as councilman.

Mayor Sager is expected to recommend a replacement for Webster at the November 16 City Council meeting.

If you are interested in running for office in the late-winter election, now is the time to file. Go to www.woodstockil.gov/ and look for filing information on the homepage. There is a one-week filing period, and it is November 15-22, 2010. Election Day will be February 22, 2011.

Some think that the City of Woodstock should elect councilmen (or women) by District, rather than at-large. The current council does not seem to be of that persuasion. It's easier for a clique to sweep the city than for residents to band together and elect someone from their own territory who will represent their own interests.

Maybe now is the time to question candidates where they stand on this issue, as well as on other issues.

Do you want to run for office?
