Are "Occupy"-ers really terrorists?

An out-of-state reader offers this comment:

"Homeland Security was created to defend our country against terrorists. Osama Bin Laden wanted to destroy Wall Street. The Wall Street protestors have the same goal. Where is Homeland Security in all of this? Where is the FBI? Why aren't these people arrested and tried on the federal level? Why are all the expenses put on local police for enforcement? The cities and states are strapped for cash and Homeland Security keeps expanding with most of the officials (~2,000 in Washington D.C. ~1,000 TSA in airports.) Something is wrong with this picture."

Yeah, peaceful protesters need to be shut up, so label them as terrorists ... how backward and ignorant can one get?

If they were throwing fire bombs in windows, and beheading bankers in their homes....then yes, they would be terrorists. But they aren't, they may be unruly and misbehaved, but they are just protesting. They have a right to call for whatever social and political change they want, as long as it doesn't turn violent.

Peaceful protestors are on thing. The Occupy-ers in Oakland, for example? Another thing.

Nobody has the right to set up camp in a public or private park. They are trespassers and should be arrested. If they block sidewalks and streets, they should be arrested.

Touché. However, many of them, like Occupy Woodstock or Occupy McHenry County do not fit into the Occupy Oakland mold.

The bankers that fleeced all of us should be arrested. The greedy corporate criminals and their paid political whores should be arrested. The people mad as hell and aren't gonna take it anymore, should be embraced and given medals for bravery, especially in the face of thugs with a badge that don't realize they are a paycheck from the very streets and parks their victims stay in.

Karen,
What flavor KoolAid is your favorite?

Educate yourself by reading something other than a liberal blog advocating the garbage you spew.

Come on, everybody. Be nice. If you have something to contribute, please do it in a polite way.

Who taught you to be so offensive Ned? Fox news? Rush? Your ultra right wing, God fearing blog you're reading?

I am able to form an opinion after wading through the propaganda of both sides. Obviously, you're unable to do that without being offensive and childish.

I always love some good irony. How bad do you have be at self realization to call names in an offensive way and then whine that those who disagree with you are being offensive and childish?

Gus please allow me, I sit back and occasionally read the blogs from Illinois and have long censored my opinions, but somehow I felt this wanted to chime in.

I think you need to re-read your own statements before firing away at Ned or anyone else that sees your statements as inflammatory. "Bankers that fleeced all of us should be arrested”. “The greedy corporate criminals and their paid political whores should be arrested." “Thugs with a badge"

That is the same anarchist rhetoric that these protestors shout. When ABC, CBS, NBC; the so called main stream media, interviewed the protestors they make nonsense statements many avowing both Communistic and Socialistic ramblings. Many are there simply to protest and disrupt without any real goal. Most espouse socialism. We only need to look to Greece, Italy and France to see how well the big government welfare state of socialism is working. Socialism is bringing down the European and world economy because those countries are bankrupt. As Margret Thatcher said “The biggest problem with socialism is that pretty soon you run out of other people’s money”

The police are there because these protestors are interrupting commerce, destroying pubic and private property. Did you read about the two small mom and pop stores forced out of business due to the protests? Weeks of being closed because the protesters mobbed the stores and cleaned off the shelves.( Theft) Five gallon buckets of human excrement being dumped in the streets and in piles within the park. Rapes, shootings assaults and you think the police preventing this are thugs?

Sadly many of the sentiments you have expressed on this thread and previous topics coincide with the expressions of many like you hastening the downfall of a magnificent Republic, a great democratic society that has been based upon hard work and entrepreneurship. Yes CAPITALISM. Demonizing banks and Wall Street is idiocy. If the corporations and investments of millions of citizens fail, there goes the economy and our country. These protestors need to take a basic class in economics rather than following Marx "Communist Manifesto and the class warfare conflict it proclaims. It appears the protestors want handouts not jobs, to destroy not contribute.

Let me finish with a famous quote and sadly a prophetic statement made years ago during the cold war. "We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism." - Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

I love a good protest, but this is not one of them!! I haven't yet seen anyone properly articulate the reasons they are involved in these protest. Very vague reasons from all of the ones they care to show on the news. They want to change the policies, or balance the wealth, or have their school loans payed for because they have no good job oportunities. Maybe they should lower their standards or get a trade job until they get what they want. I worked many jobs before I found my calling. I still stuggle to this day, but I hold my head up high knowing I have done my best without a single hand out of any kind. Get real and go back to work. ANY WORK !!! Protest on your days off.

The only way we can begin healing and moving forward is if we all band together to shield those in power AND NOBODY ELSE from the consequences of their wrongdoing.

I just decided to use my day off to check local bloggers and saw this reply. Very well said Nota! I am sending Botawannabee's comment out to my email contacts. Wish I had seen it earlier as it is a very good statement or argument. These Wall Street people just are like protestors of the 60’s and 70’s. They don’t care what the cause. They just want to protest something to be rowdy.
