On the Supervisor's agenda for tonight's Regular Meeting (12015 Mill St., Huntley, 7:30PM) is this item:
1.
Discussion regarding the Open Meetings Act, discussion and action regarding letter from Attorney General suggesting the board review ordinance requiring advance notice of intent to record meetings and prohibition of recording audience members.
That item is conspicuously absent from the Trustees' agenda. Why would such an item even be on the agenda? Are the Trustees trying to keep audience members from recording public meetings?
Have the Trustees read Illinois law? Hello? The Open Meetings Act allows recording. Period. Isn't that the end of discussion? Apparently, not so in Grafton Township.
According to the Trustees' version of the agenda, no action will be possible, because what they have put on their agenda is "Discussion and potential (emphasis added) action..." Don't any of them understand that action and "potential action" are not the same thing? I guess not.
Be sure to check out the photo on http://www.mchenrycountyblog.com/ of a Grafton Township meeting. In particular, notice the seating position of Trustee Gerry McMahon. Apparently, that seating position was not unique to that evening. Does he always sit with his back to the audience? Why would he do that?
Did Trustee McMahon spill some ketchup on his shirt while catching a fast burger at McDonald's on the way to the meeting? Was his fly broken? Hopefully, tonight he'll wear a clean shirt or repaired trousers.
Or is it that he likes looking at his own nameplate?
